Tara Rivas does it all. A Toronto based fashion designer who recently launched her first line, TMR Collection, Tara sources locally for fabrics, designs, insists on Canadian manufacturing and represents her high-end brand of sleek silhouettes and clean lines with absolute charisma.
“After years of alterations and editing clothes to fit my taste the next natural step was to design my own custom made pieces, which eventually led me to launch TMR Collection” explains Tara. “I have always felt a strong desire to express myself creatively, whether it was through designing, crafting, styling, or photography. Designing my first collection has given me the opportunity to unify my interests, which has truly been an encouraging and inspiring experience.”

Producing a new collection comes with an overwhelming number of new challenges. From forming a team, streamlining the design, sampling and production, sourcing suppliers (that uphold high ethical standards in their practices), and producing high quality garments at an affordable price to marketing, styling and day-to-day business operations, the glamour of fashion can quickly become the grind. Seeing her vision materialize into reality makes it all worth it for Tara. “Through this educational process, I have been exposed to the many facets of this industry. I do welcome the challenges, as it allows me to gain valuable industry knowledge and improve upon future collections. I want to continue to develop as a designer and take in each experience as a lesson.”
So, what can we look forward to with the TMR Collection debut? “You can expect to see a refreshing approach to ready-to-wear clothing with subtle design cues, unique structural cuts and quality fabrics for comfort. The collection consists of timeless separates with on-trend elements that easily transition from day to night. The looks are clean, effortless and modern, designed to offer women maximum style with minimum effort.”
In five years’ time, Tara envisions the TMR Collection to have become a strong Canadian brand that maintains operations and manufacturing in Canada. “I see myself continuing to develop timeless and effortless collections for women. I hope to have a tightly knit team working under the same roof in a Toronto based design studio. I aim to develop a strong online retail presence, as well as gain more widespread store availability at exclusive boutiques and notable retailers throughout Canada and the U.S.”
